Part time paraprofessional position to any library science student.

As of this week, I left my job as a Public Technology Assistant at St. Louis Public Library to take a position as Access Services Library at Jefferson College.

Although I am very excited about my new position, I am sad to leave behind my position at SLPL. I highly recommend this part time paraprofessional position to any library science student. The position offers more “bang for the buck” library experience than most others.

Besides working with the public to use the library catalogs, Internet computers and electronic databases, PTAs assist with other library activities here and there such as reference. I worked regularly at 3 different branches and also made my appearance at 5 other branches. You learn so much about organizational structure being sort of in the middle of different levels of managers and staff. Plus, and this is a big one, you get to work for Barb Knotts! :) Those of you who took 7301 know this is a great benefit. She is the best and demands the best from her staff. Job For Students: Departing From Comfort Zone

As for advice he would give to high school and junior high students, Newman said the first thing he would tell them is to work hard.

"One thing that is tricky about being young is, I think it is hard to work hard when you don't know what you are working hard for," he said

"One thing you can say for sure is that if you work really hard and you always excel, no opportunities will be closed off to you," Newman said. "It is hard to predict what you want to do, so the safest route is to do really well in all things you are involved in and you are ensured of retaining the broadest scope of opportunities possible."

Newman also would advise students to take risks and travel, and if possible, attend a college in a different city.

"Take a job in an area that you don't know anything about, and learn something about a culture that you don't know anything about," he said.

All of those things can broaden the mind, and things students never considered possible are opened to them, he said.

"When you take a chance and move out of your comfort zone, I think it is something that has been important for me," Newman said. Read more

Part Job For Students: finds your niche to record music

Bad Axe student finds his niche recording music

Bad Axe High School senior Ian Deering plays a little guitar, but he's better known for the business he started - Dead Anatomy Records. Deering records music played by artists, works his magic, and then puts the music on a CD.
.......He said he didn't think he was talented enough on the guitar, but instead of losing interest in music, he became interested in another aspect of it - recording it.

"I started reading magazines and studying (music recording) on the Internet, and then I took it from there," he said.
...........

"It's a learning experience for me. I just enjoy doing it, and that's worth more to me than charging people (a lot of money)," he said. "Local artists wouldn't be able to afford it. If I charged $12 an hour (like some recording studios), I wouldn't get any business."

He said his rates are $200 for a 10-song album.
Deering said he used to do things to promote the bands he recorded, such as organizing CD release parties and concerts. He decided he's going to step away from that and just focus on recording.

"One man can't do all of that," he said. "If I have my own record company some day, I can hire people to do that."

Student Job

Tifton - - The state is teaming with a South Georgia university to help people find jobs.

Wednesday, the Georgia Department of Labor and ABAC co-sponsored a job fair for students and people looking for jobs.

Almost 80 vendors were on site showcasing their companies. This is the first time the university partnered with the labor department. ABAC administrators say it's a beneficial collaboration.

"We've worked closely with the department for years and it seemed like they were giving fairs, we were doing fairs. So why not join together and make it a bigger fair and make it a win-win for everybody," says Maggie Martin of ABAC Student Development.

Companies as far as Virginia and the Carolinas were on site.

Martin says the school would like to partner with the state to offer this job fair every year.

Programmer job title hierarchy shown with videos

With little responsibility beyond crunching out pieces of code that meet required specifications, code monkey is actually a paying job. Computer science students gladly jump at such an opportunity, in hopes of escaping the dreaded QA positions, or worse yet - technical support. Though in reality this digital age equivalent of an assembly line worker makes for the first step of the programmer ladder that involves actually touching any code, and is preferred to be over with as soon as possible.

Students pick up unique jobs to make an extra buck - Features

Whether it is the rent, cell phone, car, tuition or books, students have bills that need to get paid. Many ISU students work in the school cafeteria and some work at local businesses to cover these finances. However, some students find a more interesting route to making extra cash.

For Vince Bruno, a junior secondary education major, nude modeling is his job of choice.

In addition to being a server at the Flat Top Grill restaurant, Bruno poses nude for the ISU art department once a week for three hours.

Bruno said he found out about the job when his girlfriend jokingly said she wanted to pose nude for extra money.

"I didn't realize ISU had this as a job but apparently they take anybody," Bruno said. "Originally I was just curious, but then I looked into it more." ......
