As of this week, I left my job as a Public Technology Assistant at St. Louis Public Library to take a position as Access Services Library at Jefferson College.
Although I am very excited about my new position, I am sad to leave behind my position at SLPL. I highly recommend this part time paraprofessional position to any library science student. The position offers more “bang for the buck” library experience than most others.
Besides working with the public to use the library catalogs, Internet computers and electronic databases, PTAs assist with other library activities here and there such as reference. I worked regularly at 3 different branches and also made my appearance at 5 other branches. You learn so much about organizational structure being sort of in the middle of different levels of managers and staff. Plus, and this is a big one, you get to work for Barb Knotts! :) Those of you who took 7301 know this is a great benefit. She is the best and demands the best from her staff.
